Brett Favre Should Be a Lion

Breaking news, Brett Favre has been traded AGAIN. This time to the team that he rightfully belongs and that is the Detroit Lions. Brett was granted his wish to stay in the Packers division. Only if this were true then it would be very fitting.

You see a lion pride is iconic with strength, will, and determination. A man's pride often leads him to do extremely incredible things and extremely stupid things. Word on the street is that Favre couldn't get over the way he was treated in the recent months. Apparently the Packers had offered to allow Brett to compete for his starting job, which he would have won, but Favre couldn't get over the recent months grumblings between himself and the organization.

Business is business. Business is neither good or bad, although it may be seen by many as one or the other to some people. The business of the Packers was that they've invested money and time into Aaron Rodgers and it is time to see if he can produce. They feel that Brett has had them on a string for several off-seasons and its time to move forward. Also, Aaron Rodgers will be a free agent after this season and if they spurned him for Favre and Favre retired they'd be left with no quarterback at all. The Packers made it very clear that their business was to win later not now.

There is no law that says business must be honest either, although it should. Packers have to save face with Aaron Rodgers so they stuck to their guns and slowly demoralized and turn their back on Brett Favre, which would be hard for anyone to get over. But when your only options are the Jets and Bucs, I think you should have gotten over it Brett. The Packers aren't stupid they were not going to let Favre play for the Vikes or Bears. I honestly think both sides should have swallowed their pride and did what was best for the team and they city of Green Bay, which is let Favre HAVE his starting position back. It's only right.

Now we have the same old story that we have in professional sports. The legendary superstar ending his career with a team that is not HIS team. It's like having a cool step parent. I mean, they are cool and all but they are not your biological parent and hugging them, telling them you love them just doesn't feel right.

No crying in football right? Or is that baseball? Eh, either way you know what I mean. We as a football community must move forward and all cross our fingers in hopes that the curse that plagued the Boston Red Sox will soon loom over the Green Bay Packers.

College Football Has Returned

Ah yes, the smell is in the air. It can only be smelled in America and merely whiffed in other countries. What is that smell you ask? No it's not what the Rock is cooking, although the Rock was apart of this Oh so distinct smell back in the early 90s, but that smell is College Football.

Yes. It is here. Camps have opened across the nation. Let's hope that the 2008 season is half of the excitement that the 2007 season gave us. The University of Georgia Bulldogs now have the task of being the first team since the 1999 Florida State Seminoles to wire to wire in the polls.

Yes, thank you Lord. Football Season has returned. Blue Chippers fulfilling their expectations, unknown players coming out of the woodworks to walk to stardom's center stage, BCS debacle, Auburn black taped shoes, the next return specialist sensation and everything else that exemplifies College Football. YES! YES! YES! It is here......

Kicked off the team for a Freestyle? Word!

Josh Jarboe, a highly coveted Freshman WR, from Atlanta, GA has been dismissed from the OU football team before he ever played a down.

"We are disappointed in this outcome, but our complete review and the final decision is in the best interest of the program," Stoops said in a prepared statement.

Jarboe, was ranked 13th ranked nationally among all positions. He was not a stranger to trouble being sentenced in May to two years probation and 80 community service for carrying a gun on the grounds of his high school in Decatur, GA. The assistant principal caught Jarboe with the gun in the school parking lot. Jarboe later offered a statement explaining the issue and labeled it as a misunderstanding. After the situation had been handled in the court system, Bob Stoops made the decision to allow Jarboe to keep his scholarship and fulfill his commitment as a Sooner.

He has been in Norman all summer long participating in workouts and doing very well. However, he will not get the chance to do very well in training camp. The time of when the rap occurred is unknown. The players have been gone since last weekend, because they were given a break before training camp started. The video surfaced on Youtube yesterday evening that featured Jarboe rapping and using controversial (normal in hip hop) lyrics. Jarboe already had a strike against him, Coach Stoops caught wind of the matter and swiftly dismissed the player.

I will take off my blogger/columnist hat and put on my fair both sides report the news journalist hat. Jarboe did not commit any crimes with his lyrics. Many OU players have been accused of DUI's, assault and battery, drug charges etc all of which actually harm other people and allowed to stay on the team. Jarboe already had one strike against him. People talk about what they know and what they have seen in life, thus being the case of this rap. Let's be honest and admit he is not from the best parts of Decatur, which is a fact. Let's also bring to light that he is a Freshman in college. If Jarboe did not know he was a representative of the University of Oklahoma, he learned the hard way that this is no way to represent your university. It was a sad way for him to learn this way and I hope something positive comes out of all of this.

People do not realize that Jarboe did NOT post the video on Youtube.com, his white teammate did who will remain anonymous. The teammate thought it was funny and would be a satire of the infamous Malcolm Kelly freestyle a few years back. Quite possibly, Jarboe thought it would be funny to do the same being that a summer in Norman is about as fun as playing a Sega Genesis in 2008. Bottom line, Jarboe is not a Sooner because of this incident.

Now, let me put back on my blogger cap and say whatever I please, because this is my blog. What bothers me is the comments that follow the 74 second video clip. I saw the phrases "fucking nigger", "niggers do nigger shit", "he's gonna end up in jail" "he is a loser/low-life etc". It really bothers me that in 2008, you would have people say these things. I would love to take every person that posted a negative comment and look at their past actions when they were Freshman in college. No matter how you feel about the situation, you don't know the kid or where he is from. It's easy to sit back and play holy-er than thou, judge someone, call him stupid for blowing an opportunity and say you would never be so stupid to blow such an opportunity. Let's pin a rose on your nose, because you can make racist comments and let the Youtube nation know how brilliant you are because when you were 18 you did nothing stupid at all and have virtually remained sinless and have challenged God as the holyiest person to ever live.

Please realize that rap is a bunch of entertainment. That is funded and purchased by the very people who are judging Jarboe. Please listen to Lupe Fiasco's "Dumb It Down", to reference what really goes on in the hip-hop industry and how harmless his lyrics really were. If half of the rappers did what they said in their raps they'd all be in jail. It is entertainment, like I said.

Before half of you respond with Rhett Bomar was kicked off the team. Let's be real. If he wasn't kicked off by the team the NCAA was going to bring the hammer down ala 1980's SMU "Death Penalty". If OU could have swept it under the rug, we all know they would have done so.

Mike Williams....Damn

It's not my place to judge or is it? I mean, I do have a blog. 

Either way, Mike Williams has disappointed me along with many other people, Most notably the Tennessee Titans. I mean this dude was a bigger and more athletic Michael Irvin in college. He was scary good at USC. 

We all know how he got screwed in 2004 by the NFL. He had to sit out a year etc, but people have had to sit out one year of football and come back just fine. Williams sat out a year and did well enough at his personal workout to be drafted 10th in the 2005 draft. 

Four years later, he's been cut or traded from 3 teams, earning a healthy 12.7 million dollars gross NFL salary and mustered a measly 44 catches for 539 yards and 2 touchdowns. 

How? Why? Did anyone see this coming? NFL bust are necessary to keep the balance of the great superstars in check while the quality but disposable players are the glue that hold the league together. But Mike Williams, a bust? If you would have told me that four years ago, I would have told you President Bush will be in office 3 terms. Williams woes, come from his inconsistent play and insurmountable weight gain.

A friend of mine played for the Detroit Lions and told me that Williams was to weigh in at 220 lbs. each week and would weigh in at 240 lbs and up consistently and would not care. To make matters worse, he was fined "x" amount of dollars for every pound that he was over 220 lbs, reaching in excess of an amount in the thousands each week. Williams simply laughed and did not care, because the food was so good and the money was even better.

He has now not cared himself out of the league and quite possibly forever. He didn't take the money and run, but he took it and ate like a starving homeless person. I've seen homeless people with more integrity ( A guy with a "Why lie, I need a beer" sign). Williams should have done the same with a "Once I get paid, I'm eating good" sign on draft day. 

He was once 270 lbs, at WIDE RECEIVER! I mean are you kidding me. Nothing bothers me more than someone who is given a God-given talent and wastes it. I hope Williams can swim because he has burnt every NFL bridge he ever had. I also hope he waited 30 minutes after eating before he burnt those bridges. We don't want him to catch a cramp and drown.

Cody Paul...Never Seen Anything Like Em

Better late than never, but this clip is a year old and the debate is out on how old Cody Paul actually is. Word on the street is he was 12 years old when this highlight surfaced, and he is now 13. 

From Adrian Peterson to Brett Favre, age ain't nothing but a number. I don't care how old Cody Paul is, bottom line at best, he is a freshman in high school, and was doing these x-rated football activities before then.

WR's

I mean who knows the difference between a WR and Flanker? The Slot and the Wide Out ? These guys who are between 5'6" and 6'5" and all they do is pretty boy shit. I mean they are not in the trenches. Randy Moss has not went over the middle since I was in middle school yet and still he has the noteriety of Paris Hilton. WR's have sex tapes and they garner all the attention for nothing. I must admit with the affulence of the spread offense, I would presume that the WR is as popular as the jerhi curl in the 1980's. But I refuse to feed into the hype, I mean look at the jobs of wide outs; crack back blocks and half ass runblocking versus guys who are more often than not on an island.

If a Linebacker gets blown up on any given play he is wrote off as a pussy where as a wide out can catch one pass per game and be a star. Think of prominent wide outs in the NFL, Randy Moss and T.O. they are good as they come and they may have a game with only 2 catches. Let a Linebacker such as Tyrell Suggs or Shawne Merriman have two tackles they are "slipping" and need to step it up . WR's are the fly boys on the fringes of society that get the credit for all the work with minimal work. Let me subtract the hard worker types such as Hines Ward or Wes Welker who lay it on the line every week and earn thier notoriety as the gentleman they are. Im talking about the Calvin Johnson's and the Randy Moss' of the world who do nothing and recieve stellar paychecks for their existences as front men.

I would love to see these guy as a DT where the real "work" is or even a more comparable positon as Tight End. All the glitz and glamour would stop immediatley. So to conclude, I say STFU and "do work son" and hopefully fans will realize that it takes more than one diving catch to win a heisman and more than surreal TD antics to be a star. Willis McGahee and may the lord bless his soul Sean Taylor keep up the good work. Any USC incumbent wide out whose worth is ill recieved get your weight up and put down the arrogant undeserved swag and hit the weights. Do some run blocking and get a life. Ill be patiently waiting for a wideout besides Hines Ward to do something that is more than glamorized fluff. Have a nice day.

Brett Favre Is All Ya Got My Dude...

I commend you on a such a riveting blog post on what YOU think Mr. Favre should do.

I'm gonna play a game, my name is Ted Thompson, I am the general manager of the Green Bay Packers. Basically I decided who plays for the team and who doesn't. Winning is not the only thing it is everything, and for those that don't believe it, the great Sean Carter once said,

"Nice guys finish last with their special set of rules."

I have a business to run and that is to put the best players on a team that give this team the best chance to win. Who gives the Packers a better chance to win....Aaron "I've never played a full season Rodgers" or Brett "Dan Marino secretly hates me" Favre. No one said being the GM of one of the greatest sports franchises of all-time was going to be easy. I already dropped the ball once when I froze and gave Brett the cold shoulder while I was on vacation, which I basically used as a stall tactic to get my thoughts in order. Brett had one of the single greatest seasons of his career, led us to within one game of the Super Bowl, therefore why in the world wouldn't I welcome him back with open arms as the STARTING quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

Okay, so he retired. The man has a right to change his mind like a woman has the right to make a man wait 45 minutes after the first time she said she was ready to leave the house. Bottom line is Brett gives your team a better chance of winning NOW than Aaron Rodgers does.

Young Clayborne brought up the point of Brett Favre's woeful season two years ago. It was woeful because Brett Favre has guts. Guts to risk it all to win it all. How much help did he have, none. Inexperienced wide receivers, an inconsistent running game, and a defense that ranked 25th in ppg in 2006. 2007 rolls around, defense improved, receivers, have confidence and lookie here, Brett Favre had one of his best seasons.

The Packers haven't won a Super bowl in 11 years. Titletown USA you say? Win now Brett Favre. Win later....MAYBE, Aaron Rodgers, because they didn't draft Brian Brohm for nothing.
